Interpack 2026: Away from the control cabinet!
MOVIDYN®decentralized servo system reduces control cabinet volume by 80%
Bruchsal/Dortmund – With MOVIDYN®, SEW-EURODRIVE is expanding its automation portfolio with a DC-based, decentralized multi-axis solution for modular machines. The aim is to enable machine builders to have more flexibility in the architecture and at the same time significantly reduce the engineering, installation and startup work.
In mechanical engineering – and especially in the packaging industry – the customer's expectations in terms of modularity, flexibility and short implementation times remain in focus. SEW-EURODRIVE meets these requirements with MOVIDYN®, a decentralized drive architecture that consistently transfers servo drive technology from the control cabinet to the machine. This results in direct, measurable benefits for machine builders: The control cabinet volume can be significantly reduced – by up to 80% in many applications. At the same time, cabling work and installation times are reduced as well. For machines with many distributed axes, the decentralized topology saves up to 45% of cabling. Instead of complex individual wiring, distribution is carried out via a central supply and a consistent plug-and-play concept with standardized M23 hybrid connectors.
There are also advantages at the application level: Additional function modules can be easily integrated because there is no need to adapt the existing infrastructure. This means that cables no longer have to be pulled through the entire machine to the control cabinet. The modules are connected directly in the field and integrated into the existing structure. This allows machine modules to be stored preassembled and prewired and flexibly combined during final assembly. The control cabinet largely remains the only customer-specific unit. The result is a scalable machine architecture that can be flexibly adapted to different requirements and variants and significantly shortens the time to market.
Technically, the MOVIDYN® system is based on three assemblies: The coupling module for connecting to the drive electronics in the control cabinet, the distribution modules for connecting up to five motors, as well as other distribution modules and the decentralized drives. They are available with integrated electronics or electronics mounted close to the motor. The reduction to a few central components in the control cabinet is the decisive lever for saving space and cabling. MOVIDYN®thus enables a machine architecture that can be flexibly adapted to various requirements – from compact individual machines to modular line concepts. The decentralized servo system offers specific advantages in terms of space requirements, cabling, installation effort and scalability.
